If you feel your homes value has decreased, you can send a letter to the Contra Costa County Property Tax Assessor's office. Include your name, address, city, state, zip and daytime telephone number.

Explain how homes in your area have decreased and you would like your property taxes reset with a lower amount. If you include any comparable property sales in your area, it will speed up your process. You can find comparables at www.homegain.com or similar sites, or from your realtor. The tax office told us that you should hear from them with your updated statement or new property taxes within 2 to 3 weeks
